About Us
Smart Sistas ICT Camp for Girls
The SMART Sistas ICT Girls Camp Committee is a strong collaboration between US Peace Corps Volunteers, US Peace Corps Staff, ICT Association Professionals (VIGNET), NGOs and welcome additional partners to strengthen the program.
The committee began preparations in November 2014 and continually hope to expand the program in future years.
We are committed to empowering girls to pursue educational opportunities in the Information Communications Technology field.

Requirements and pre-requisites
WHO: Ten girls aged 11 – 15 are selected to attend the camp. These girls must be currently residing in the Shefa Province.
WHAT: Annual SMART Sistas ICT Camp
WHEN: May 13 - 17, 2019
WHERE: Port Vila, Vanuatu
FEE: VT12000 ($120)
The SMART Sistas ICT Camp design allows each girl and her parent/guardian to attend
- 24 hours of ICT technical training
- 12 hours of leadership and gender empowerment training and
- 4 hours of career exploration in telecommunications, television, radio broadcasting, computer hardware, software and services and electrical media
The participant will be selected based on the following requirements:
- Familiarity with the English language
- The ability to follow directions
- Be knowledgeable with a standard QWERTY keyboard, mouse and a laptop
- Have basic experience in using a web browser
- Be familiar with the Windows Desktop and the Windows GUI experience
- Optional: Have some familiarity with HTML, CSS and Javascript
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Upon commencement of the camp, each successful applicant is allocated a laptop and other accessories to work with during the course of the camp.
The following criteria are considered during the application and admissions process. All applicants are screened for:
- FAMILIARITY WITH THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
The applicant must be able to understand written and spoken English. - ABILITY TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS
All successful applicants will be required to give their full attention in the sessions. Guardians must make sure that the applicants follow the instructions given so that they do not lag behind the rest of the trainees. - ABILITY TO USE A KEYBOARD AND MOUSE
A familiarity with the the QWERTY layout of the keyboard will be a huge advantage for the participant. It can help them to keep up with the exercises at a much faster rate. It is assumed that all shortlisted applicants will already know how to use a mouse or touch pad. (It is not the purpose of this camp to teach successful applicants how to use the keyboard or mouse.) - FAMILIARITY WITH WEB BROWSERS
Applicants must know how to browse the Internet using a web browser like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Avast SafeZone Browser, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Internet Explorer. - FAMILIARITY WITH MICROSOFT WINDOWS DESKTOP
All successful applicants should already be familiar with the Microsoft Windows Desktop and the Windows GUI experience, and be able to navigate the Windows file system with ease. (It is not the purpose of this camp to teach successful applicants how to navigate the desktop and general files system.) - [OPTIONAL] HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT
Applicants with a basic understanding of these web scripting technologies will be at an advantage. This, however, is not a strict requirement.
CERTIFICATION
Each successful participant will be awarded a Certificate of Completion, which will certify that the applicant has successfully completed five (5) days of intensive training.
In addition to the certificate, each participant will be leaving the camp with the laptop that was allocated to her at the beginning of the camp. This is the ensure that the girls continue to practice the skills learned during the training, during their own time and pace.
